Cost consideration

The question remains whether a public health approach to child maltreatment prevention is cost prohibitive. A cost analysis was conducted by the Washington State Institute for Public Policy (WSIPP) directed by Steven Aos (Lee, Aos and Drake 2012). WSIPP examined Triple P benefits and costs in the context of the child welfare system and found that deploying all five levels of the Triple P system yielded a return of US$6.06 for every one US dollar invested – an excellent return on investment relative to other programs and strategies. WSIPP also examined Triple P from a child mental health perspective and found that implementation of Level 4 Group Triple P produced a US$5.63 return for every one US dollar invested, which also compared favorably with other programs. These data from the WSIPP Washington State Institute for Public Policy suggest that a public health strategy like Triple P is not cost prohibitive for reducing the prevalence of child maltreatment.
